Ruth and Jay manage to escape the ventilation shaft and make it onto the roof of the ED but lose Lily on the way. Whilst they await their fate Ruth explains that she thinks she doesn't deserve Jay but he says that he loves her. Ruth and Jay along with Lily are eventually rescued from a completely devastated ED building. After the ED staff congratulate Ruth and Jay on their baby news, they decide to make a fresh start and head off in a camper van across the Clifton Bridge and a life by the seaside in a 2 up 2 down.
